Many teachers have never contemplated working in an independent girls’ school, but each year teachers join from the maintained sector, from other independent schools, both single-sex and co-educational and as NQTs. They quickly appreciate the unique atmosphere of girls’ schools as a professional working environment. Some schools are offering teacher taster days to people who are interested in teaching in a girls’ school and further detail is available from the ‘Teacher Zone’ on the ISC website – www.isc.co.uk
GSA schools also provide appropriate induction and training for NQTs via IStip which acts in the same way as a local authority.
“In a GSA school the atmosphere is conducive to girls’ development and all resources are dedicated to the way in which girls learn.”
What GSA schools can offer teachers:
What our NQTs say:
“Teaching in GSA schools means working with girls who tackle all subjects equally because there is no stereotyping”
“GSA schools are full of spirited girls who make the most of life and share in each others’ success.”
If you are a newly qualified teacher and want to find out more about teaching in the independent sector visit the Independent Schools Teacher Induction website – www.istip.co.uk. The Independent Schools Teacher Induction Panel – IStip (formerly the Independent Schools Council Teacher Induction Panel- ISCtip) is the sector’s Appropriate Body for newly qualified teacher induction approved by the Secretary of State for Education in 1999. In 2003, the remit was extended to Wales.
