Other categories of membership

Affiliate member

Heads of girls’ schools not eligible for full membership of the Association may be eligible for election to affiliate membership where the school is funded either by direct local, central government funding or is proprietorial
Heads of girls-only academies are eligible for election to affiliate membership
Heads of girls’ 11-16 sections in other ISC schools are eligible for election to affiliate membership
Heads of stand alone, all girls’ preparatory schools with pupils in the age range 7 and above are eligible for affiliate membership
Applications for affiliate membership shall be made to the Membership Services Director with a recommendation by a nominator and seconder who are full members of the Association. The application will be considered and approved by the Membership Committee before being forwarded to the region for election.

Affiliate membership of the Association does not qualify the school for membership of ISC and therefore inclusion in any published tables or the use of the GSA logo on letterheads or publicity material.

Associate member

Members who have retired or who have left the Association for another reason may be eligible for election to associate membership for the subsequent five years.

Applications for associate membership should be made to the Membership Services Director with a recommendation by a nominator and seconder who are full members of the Association.

The application for associate membership should be agreed by the region concerned before being forwarded to Membership Committee for its approval.

Overseas member

Heads of girls’ schools overseas may be eligible for election to overseas membership.

Application for overseas membership shall be made to the Membership Services Director. Election to overseas membership shall be made by the Membership Committee.

Honorary member

The Association may elect as honorary member any Head who has done outstanding work for the Association and has retired from the profession.

Any recommendations will be considered by the Officers Committee who will recommend to Council members of the Association who may be considered for election to honorary membership. Election to honorary membership will be made at the Annual General Meeting and Membership Committee informed.

Acting Head – temporary member

GSA has recently established a category of temporary membership enabling Acting Heads, where the previous Head was in full membership of GSA, to receive all the benefits of GSA’s full membership except the ability to serve on any national committees, hold office or have voting rights. Acting Heads are expected to adhere to the GSA Code of Practice. Application for this category of membership should be made to the Membership Services Director.

Honorary, Associate and Affiliate members may not be elected as Officers of the Assciation or as Council members, nor shall they be entitled to vote at General Meetings of the Association or in postal ballots, but shall be entitled to such benefits of membership as the Council may decide.
