Red Bull: Children are getting hooked on the caffeine drink, head teachers have warned

Children are becoming addicted to caffeine from energy drinks and tablets, head teachers warned yesterday. Growing numbers appear intoxicated at school after knocking back cans of caffeine-packed drinks as if they were ordinary pop. Some use the drinks in the belief that they will help them stay alert during exams.
Heads are demanding curbs on sales of drinks such as Red Bull and Relentless to children to protect their health and avoid disrupting their schoolwork.
Hilary French, Central Newcastle High GDST, and Dr Stuart Nelson, a GP and medical officer for Cheltenham Ladies' College are quoted in this article.
The Girls' Schools Association has posted warnings to parents on its 'mydaughter' advice website that the availability of energy drinks is tempting ever-younger girls to indulge, and that the legal status of pills such as Pro Plus can lull youngsters into thinking they cannot do any harm.
